Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign gradually moves your teeth with a series of clear, removable, custom-made aligners. Patients typically wear each set of aligners for 1 to 2 weeks at a time. The aligners may only be removed to eat, drink, brush and floss. Your teeth will move slowly with each aligner, and visits to our office are every 10-15 weeks.

Teenagers and adults can wear clear aligners. These aligners can be used to close gaps between teeth, as well as treat malocclusions with an overbite, underbite, open bite, crossbite, and overcrowded teeth. The orthodontist will evaluate your bite and the health of your teeth to determine if clear aligner treatment is appropriate for you.

Total treatment time averages between 6 and 18 months, some longer depending on the complexity of the case. Patients usually visit our office every 10-15 weeks so we can check their progress and give them the next series of custom-made aligners.

You can expect to have between 18 and 30 different aligners made to fit your mouth during the entire treatment plan. If more aligners are required, refinement aligners would be provided to help achieve the desired result.  

One of the best reasons to invest in clear aligners is how comfortable these aligners are to wear. Remember that your teeth are shifting into a new position, so you can expect to feel some mild discomfort as they move, especially with the first set of aligners. The pressure you will feel on your teeth when you first put on a new set of aligners will gradually fade over the course of a few days.

Our office is very experienced in the intricacies of the Invisalign and clear aligner process. Your first step is to schedule a complimentary examination to determine if this process is right for you. Then, after sending precise treatment instructions, Invisalign uses advanced computer technology to translate these instructions in a sequence of finely calibrated aligners. Each aligner is worn for about 1 week and only taken out to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next, your teeth will begin to move week by week until the final alignment is attained.

Caring for clear aligners couldn’t be easier. We recommend brushing your aligners with a mild soap or denture cleaner (such as Efferdent) every time you brush your teeth.
